  • Can I mirror my district laptop to my television?

    Yes! If you television allows it. Simply hold down the Windows button and hit the P key. Then select Wireless display and look for your television as a names source.

  • What is the goal of a 1:1 environment? ?

    To provide equitable access to technology in order to foster creative options for teachers and students and enhance teaching and learning.

  • Why don’t we utilize a “shared” model anymore?

    Posted by:
    • Devices are not shared equally between classrooms.
    • Teachers need to sign out carts in advance.
    • Time is wasted transporting carts from classroom to classroom throughout the day.
    • There is no ownership of devices, causing issues with care and maintenance.

  • Will more screen time have a negative impact on our students? ?

    The technology will allow for the creation of new tasks previously inconceivable. 

    Media used by teens identifies four main categories of screen time.

    • Passive consumption: watching TV, reading, and listening to music
    • Interactive consumption: playing games and browsing the Internet
    • Communication: video-chatting and using social media
    • Content creation: using devices to make digital art, or music

    Our goal is to limit unnecessary screen time and utilize technology when it is educationally appropriate.

  • How will students be using the devices in school?

    Teachers will continue to use devices in ways they have prior to this year; however, access will not be a hindrance to lesson plans since every student will have a laptop available for use.  Through on-going staff development, teachers are trained to use technology when appropriate in a lesson.  There may be days when students do not use a laptop in class, lessons when laptops are necessary for a component of the lesson, and times when a laptop will be necessary for an entire activity.

  • What if students or parents do not sign the Acceptable Use Policy and/or device agreement.

     If students and/or parents refuse to sign the Acceptable Use Policy, a device will not be issued to the student for at-home use.

  • When will devices be issued?

    Devices will be issued at the beginning of the school year. Specific information on date and time will be communicated by your building.

  • Who owns this device and accessories?

    Posted by:

    The district owns the device and the accessories.  Staff has the right to confiscate the device at any time for any reason.

  • May my student personalize the district device, case or other accessories?

    Posted by:

    No, the district owns the device and its accessories.  A label will be placed on the device by the district.

  • Is my student required to use the issued carrying case?

    Posted by:

    Yes. Every student will be issued a carrying case.  Each student is responsible for the care of his/her device.  Students are encouraged use the district-issued carrying case in and out of school but may use a personal case if they desire as long as it provides the same level of protection as their district issued case.

  • What will this cost and who is paying for it?

    The usage fee covers insurance for breaks, as well as a charger.  We have different pricing structures grade level bands. The totals listed represent the total cost for that band, not per year. K-6 $60, 7-9 $60, and 10-12 $60.

    Incidents of abuse or intentional damage are not covered by the usage fee and may result in the full repair cost being billed to the Student and Parent/Guardian. Lost accessories such as power adapters and pens are not covered.  Students will be able to purchase extra accessories.

    Families who qualify for free/reduced lunch will have a $0 fee. If you have an economic hardship, please contact your building principal to discuss payment options.

  • What happens if my device needs repair?

    The Student and Parent/Guardian understand and agree that they will not attempt any repairs on the Laptop and that damage must be reported to the school. The student will place a “Help Desk” ticket when deemed necessary, under the category of 1:1. The librarian will sign out a loaner device to the Student. It is important not to delay as one problem can lead to another if not solved right away. If your device is damaged, we will fix it or send it out for repair. Under no circumstances should you or anyone else take the device to a third party for repair.

  • What does my student do if the device is stolen?

    In the event the laptop is stolen or otherwise not returned to the 一本道 while in the custody of the Student, the Student and Parent/Guardian agree they will be responsible to the 一本道 for the replacement cost unless a police report is timely filed.  Lost or stolen laptops must be reported to the school principal or designee within 48 hours and police reports must be provided to the 一本道 within one week.  Failure to abide by these procedures will result in the full replacement cost being billed to the Student and Parent/Guardian.

  • Does my student need to bring the device home?

    Yes, students will need the device at home to complete assignments, prepare for assessments and collaborate with classmates.

  • Can my student travel with the device on family vacations or outings?

    Yes, students may bring the device on family vacations and outings. Devices will not work, however, outside of the United States due to security concerns.

  • What if I don't have internet access at home?

    If families do not have internet access at home, there are procedures in place to help.  Please contact your building principal to discuss options.

  • Will my child's internet access be filtered from inappropriate material at home?

    Yes.  The device will be filtered at home the same way it is filtered at school.  We use the Lightspeed filtering systems to block social media and inappropriate content.

  • Can other members of my household use my device?

    Students will not permit individuals other than 一本道 personnel and their parent/guardian to access the Laptop.  The Student agrees not to use or allow the device to be used for any illegal reasons or other reasons prohibited by School Board Policy No. 815.

  • What if my student forgets to bring their device to school?

    It is the daily responsibility of the student to bring a charged device to school every day.  This is considered a class material, much like having a pen/pencil or textbook.

  • Where does my student keep the device during the school day?

    Students will carry their device in the carrying case and keep it with them throughout the school day.  There will be times when they will be stored in their locker and other times when they will be stored in an alternate location.  These may include during lunch at the cafeteria, PE class, and during extracurricular activities.

  • Can my student use a personal device rather than a district one?

    No, students must use their district issued device to maintain consistency with technology being used in the classroom.

  • Will student achievement be increased in a 1:1 environment?

    Student achievement may increase with the use of technology; however, that is not the primary focus of our 1:1 initiative. When providing technology, 一本道 Bucks focuses on collaboration, mobility, accessibility, and providing a consistent classroom model for our staff and students.

    Below is some of the available research that outlines the potential benefits of a 1:1 initiative: 

    • If implemented effectively, a 1:1 environment can be beneficial for student learning. With access to technology, students gain the possibility of receiving immediate feedback from teachers and peers through online services, as well as flexible learning environments (Delgado, 2015).
    • Technology allows students the ability to personalize education and gain more immediate access to resources. With effective implementation and accessibility to technology, students are more likely to demonstrate:
